My challenge
As a child I would hide behind the legs of my mom and dad like they were my protection from “scary”people. The more people I saw my parents talk to I began to be less afraid of them, in school it was a bit better because the “scary” people were my age. I was still afraid after I got into middle school. Many people would talk to me but I was still the quiet one and the different one in the group, which made me feel left out. I would get bullied, as well, so that didn’t help my situation and I lived with low self-esteem; this lasted for 3 years. Once, I entered into seventh grade, I was determined to forget all the bad things that were done to me and had been said to me. Also, my trust in God helped me grow more patient, trusting, confident and loving, this resulted in my becoming the outgoing and social person I am today. Getting motivated for myself was a difficult thing to do because there wasn’t anyone who I could talk about these things, and so, I started a game with myself testing how many people I can meet. At first it started with family, family friends, and then strangers from church or from school. My journey has been a long and bumpy road with many difficult situations. As a family, we have overcome moving place to place and not being able to find a stable home. For everyone. The more we are used to it the more we can see the love of God in our home and life. Life is about growing and changing myself, which I am determined not to go back to the little shy girl I once was.
my GOAL
Pain is only for a little bit. Success is forever.
My way of expressing my creativity is by writing my feelings away or, mainly, I want to have a remembrance of a particular event in my life. I say I have a blessed life because I have my parents, house, food on the table everyday and that is something most people do not have. Even though I have a good life there were moments in life when I felt that there was no hope but thankfully I had God to help when I felt let down. I then write what I am going through and when I read my writings from the past I am honored to not go through that again. Writing is my inspiration to be better and hope tomorrow is a better day. Also teaching others how to play volleyball is another expression of my creativity and I build things to help me get better at volleyball, as well with others. Teaching children has been a challenge because they have a short attention span, which is only the issue, they learn and motivate me to be more patient. Many different things have helped the people around allowed me to have a better motivation to continue learning and growing with better understanding of those around me. Nothing could have been better for me than to let out my feelings on paper because I will be able to help someone who has gone through a similar situation as me. People need help and I am willing to help those who want to be helped. Volleyball is a sport but for me it is my chance to see improvement in the future.

When I was younger I learned that my parents did not finish school because they were poor and needed money to pay for school, they faced challenges as they were growing up. Being an adult in the United States they knew that their children needed to have a better life than they did. That is why they would always have us doing our homework, buying us math books, reading books, anything academic that caught our attention they would buy for us. Throughout school I was the A student but it happened because my parents would tell me if I didn’t know how to do it I needed to ask my teacher for help; even today that is implied with us. I would take any after school program there was at school because I wanted to be better and help others along the way. Today I see the result of having my parents telling me to stay after class to ask the teacher for help even if there is something better going on that day. When I got into high school I tried harder in school because it did not get easier for me. I struggle, but I overcome and that is from the great dedication my parents had for all of us. People see that I have great potential and they support me through everything because of what I show them. Having an older sister that went to college is the only example that I have in my family to be better and achieve more for my parents. Family is everything for me; getting an education, receiving my degree will be the greatest thing that will happen for my family and me. With the opportunities that were offered in my school it was my duty to take advantage and be successful like my parents raised me to be.
